In my sorority days at Washington University in St. Louis we used to snap our fingers during chapter meetings and events whenever we found we liked something or agreed with something someone was saying. It was in an effort to not disrupt the meeting but also to echo and support our sisters. Snapping is loud enough that you hear it but allows the conversation and dialogue to continue without being disruptive.
Honestly I loved giving snaps and I loved receiving snaps. I wish it was socially acceptable to continue to use snaps in the business world. It would be a great way to keep business meetings calm and keep coworkers from trying to shout over each other to get their points across. It would also be a great way to know that someone heard your idea and is backing you up, that you are not alone. Because sometimes, its really scary to share your idea when you are the youngest person on your team.
So in honor of snaps, I am bringing it to the blog. I want to start a weekly snaps feature giving snaps to anything I found snap worthy over the past week. It could be anything a book, product, event, person, TV show, episode, move, or total random act of kindness I saw on the street.
I am also planning on adding snap reviews to my book club reviews each month; up to five snaps per book! Go get snapping!!!

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
I was in need of a quick read this month to get back on the reading game and Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None seemed like the perfect beach read to kick off my summer reading. Also I have been getting intrigued by ABC's "Whodunnit?" and I decided to jump the gun with a little murder mystery tale.
This was a fantastic quick read with tons of twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing all the way to the epilogue. If you like murder mystery dinners this is the one for you.
Room by Emma Donoghue
This one had been on my list for a while now and I am so glad I finally got around to reading it. I had bought it for my iPad a year ago and then got so focused on reading only on my Kindle that I forgot to go back and checkout my iBooks options. This book is told from the perspective of Jack, a five year old that has never stepped outside an 11'x11' room his entire life; he was even born in that room. His mother, who you only know as Ma, was abducted when she was 19 years old and has been held against her will for the last seven years. It is a haunting story of captivity and the psychological damage that can come with abductions.
Sweet Tooth by Ian Mcewan
This was a great book about the story of a young female MI5 agent in the 1970's. It starts out very strong and ends with a great bang, although I will admit it gets a little lost about 70% of the way through. The book tells the story of Serena Frome, an MI5 desk agent in the 1970's who is brought on to work on a covert operation called Sweet Tooth. Sweet Tooth is an operation created to directly combat the Cold Wear and Communist sympathies. An interesting read about the time period, the book also finds ways to surprise you up until the last few pages.
The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
I am about a quarter of the way through this book and find that it is a book with difficult topics to tackle. Still, J.K. Rowling's writing is beautiful and can only draw you into the lives and drama of characters she so richly creates.
