Must Watch TV

Fall TV

Guys, last week while I was away Fall TV came back with a bang. Now that I am home, I can start catching up with my husband. We are huge TV buffs, me probably more so and I am always wanting to try out new shows. For that reason, I try out all new shows on Hulu first to decide if they make the season pass list on our DirecTV receiver. Keep in mind there is no way to watch all of these at the same time and some of our shows that we like but don't love get saved up to watch when the season has wrapped and less options are available for new TV. Since most of our shows are Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday we do a lot of catch up on Friday and Saturdays.

SCBS Monthly Link Up: Fall's Favorite Bags

What I'm Loving

I am so excited that today's link up is all about our favorite bags for Fall. I tend to shift to more muted or deeper colors for Fall like navy, black, grey, red, etc, but I have to say I am dying to add a light pink bag to my collection for this Fall. I love that light pink was all over the runways as a pop of color. This Kate Spade bag is my favorite but I have been trying to track down a more inexpensive option.

As fall approaches, I find myself rotating back to my old favorites: my super soft cognac brown leather bag from J.Crew (#5), my navy blue leather bag from Coach (#1) and my light grey Michael Kors tote (#2). I am putting this wine cross body from Gigi NY, monogrammed of course, (#4) on my list for Christmas as well as the pink Kate Spade (#9). What kind of bags do you find yourself drawn to for Fall?

#MrAndMrsSmall

This has been the week of weddings for us. Last weekend we were in Philadelphia for the wedding of Dan's college friend John and his now wife, Lindsey. John and Lindsey both went to Penn State like Dan but didn't start dating until they had both graduated.

Both wonderful friends to Dan and I, John was in our wedding as a groomsmen and for these nuptials Dan returned the favor. We flew into Philly on the redeye with friends Adam and Jacqui and then were off to drop Dan at the rehearsal. Post rehearsal, Dan and the best man, John's brother Mikey, retrieved me from the hotel and we were off the Rehearsal Luncheon.

Later that day the whole wedding reconvened at the bar to celebrate the bride and groom before the following day's festivities.

The wedding took place at a lovely estate. The ceremony was outdoors followed by dinner and dancing in the mansion. It was perfect. The parents even had a surprise for the bride and groom, performing a choreographed couples dance. It was a great night, full of great friends, tasty treats and so much dancing! Congrats John and Lindsey!

RE2PECT

Last night Yankee Stadium said goodbye to the Captain, the face of baseball, Derek Jeter. Wearing my Jeter t-shirt from 1998 (from when I was 12) I cried my eyes out. Don Mattingly, the Captain before Jeter, is my favorite player ever, but the only other player to come close was Derek Jeter. Jeter has been in the game since I was 9 years old. My favorite Yankee t-shirt is a Jeter jersey tee that is 16 years old (thank goodness my dad bought it big back then so I can still rock it, even with some tiny holes). Jeter has been in uniform for most of my life, I barely remember the team before him.

Ready for some baseball!
I was so lucky to be able to fly home for his final homestand and I am so glad I did. I was able to go with my sister on Tuesday night and my dad both Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night.
Dad and I before the game yesterday.
Growing up in New York City, I have always been a die hard Yankee fan. I was born the day before Opening Day and my dad watched Opening Day that year with me in his arms. I even used to intern with the Yankees Front Office back in High School and College (leaving that gig for Engineering was one of the hardest decisions I ever made).
My great friend and fellow former Yankees intern Jess was at the game too!
Derek Jeter is a class act from start to finish. I have had the honor of meeting him a few times, as well as his family, and it is not hard to understand why his fans love him. He's generous, kind, well spoken, passionate and loyal, all the things you want in a friend. He's stood up to the rigors of playing in NY and dealing with the press like few players can.

He is one in a million and the sport is indebted to him forever. He gave MLB a face to represent everything good and clean about the game. He thrived as a role model for the community. He started foundations and made them family run affairs. There is no one else quite like him in the game.

Derek's career is one of a storybook that could only end with him getting a walk off hit at his final game at shortstop. I also find it so classy that he not only thanked the fans after the game but also applauded the Orioles for their season. I've never seen him so flustered in an interview in his 20 years but it was so endearing to watch. I love when he told the reporters that he does have emotions, he just has a good poker face!
His final at bat.
A hit to right field for the win!
I cried a few times last night, I am not ashamed of it. Derek Jeter molded my hitting stance including the hand to the ump for time until I was set. He was my idol. I can't even imagine how sad I will be next Opening Day when Derek Jeter is not in the lineup, but I know he won't be to far away. He'll find a way back into baseball, just in a new role.
Saluting the fans.
And because there is nothing better than Legos and Derek Jeter, here are his top 10 moments recreated with legos! I even got my own Jeter Lego figurine.

Mini Office Must Haves

Mini Office Must Haves

I don't know about a lot of you but I spend a lot of time at home at my desk. Between my blog and working for my regular job after hours, my desk is a little sanctuary to me. I converted a corner of our living room into a desk area with a ladder bookcase and desk from Crate & Barrel caddy corner. It gives me the perfect L shaped work space without looking cluttered.

Since my desk area is in the middle of our living room, I wanted to make sure my desk accessories were attractive while remaining functional. These mini office must haves make any desk space more efficient and effective while staying clean and uncluttered.

Wednesday Wishes: Glamping

Wednesday Wishes... Glamping

I love to camp. When Dan and I got married, we registered for a bunch of camping gear and I am so glad we did. I've always been an outdoorsy kid. Even though I grew up in New York City, we spent the weekends at our house in Upstate New York and I loved it there. My sister, cousin and I used to head out early in the morning to hike to the pond and pick blueberries for pancakes on the way back, my dad and I went hiking on the Appalachian Trail as a kid, and we camp out in the yard every year for the Square Dance.

Still I know roughing it is not everyone's style so for today's Wednesday Wishes, I've elevated from camping to glamping. I'll say that the Real Housewives of NY's trip to Montana this season totally inspired me.

Tuesday #Shoesday: Olivia Palmero & Aquzzara

Tuesday #Shoesday

Today's #Shoesday is all about swoon worthy shoes. While I will never have the money to drop on these shoes, I have to swoon at their beauty. You could wear a burlap sack and these shoes and you would be a knockout. Swooning.

Style Inspo: Katharine Hepburn

Style Inspo: Katharine Hepburn

Today's feature is new to Headbands & Bagels and something that I plan to incorporate each month. I derive so much of my style inspiration from Hollywood starlets of old as well as contemporaries today and each month I want to feature someone whose style has inspired me and how I would translate them for today.

Today I am sharing my favorite tomboy, Katharine Hepburn. She may be my favorite movie star ever to be honest. I adore her films and her charismatic charm like she is just one of the boys. As a girl that has always had more guy friends than girl friends, Ms. Hepburn just speaks to me. I love that she bucked the trends of girly silhouettes and went for wide leg trousers, silk blouses and flats! Nothing better than a flat, particularly a loafer, especially for us tall girls.

Top 10 Playlist - September Edition

Top 10 Playlist... September

I know what you are probably thinking, that these are some mellow and potentially sad songs. I'm not down, its just that mellow songs are pretty excellent for work. I have a CD player in my office and a ton of my CDs from middle school on which is why some of these songs are pretty old school. While I love a good dance beat as much as the next person, more soulful music is perfect for my workday. It gets me working without realizing they day is steaming ahead and without distracting me.

10 Under $100

10 Under $100

Every month I strive to bring you some great finds at under $100. I am on a shopping budget just like many of you, and I am always so pleased when I can snag a great find at under $100 without  having to wait for a sale to pop up. I have difficulty finding good options in my size at places like Forever 21, but have found that sites like ASOS and Piperlime as well as Nordstrom always have lots to offer in addition to traditional standards like Old Navy and LOFT. And lots of times you can work with whatever you have in your closet and just add some new accessories like a great fall hat or bracelet to change up your look.

Also since I have been dieting and working out, I am trying not to spend much on clothes until I am back to my goal weight. If I end up with a purchase I make sure I will get a lot of price per wear out of the piece and can potentially be tailored (two things I look for in every purchase no matter what.)

Pinterest Hairstyle - The Fan Bun

via Pinterest
A little more put together than the ballerina bun or messy bun post workout, this bun has volume and a I didn't try that hard vibe that is super desirable, especially post workouts and for casual Fridays at the office. What is your favorite low maintenance hair style?
