Wednesday Wishes: A Mixed Bag

Wednesday Wishes

This week's Wednesday Wishes are a bit of a mixed bag and I know that they are definitely shoe heavy, but since this week's Tuesday #Shoesday was skipped due to the SoCal Blogger Society Link Up, I figured why not! These are all pieces I am checking out these days, especially loving all these great sandals and pops of color in flats for spring. Stripes are also going to dominate this spring season for me, if you couldn't tell based on this week's list. What are you currently craving this week?

SCBA Monthly Link Up: Orange is the New Black

What I'm Loving

This month is all about Orange is the New Black and I am so proud to be hosting our SoCal Blogger Society Linkup for April! Orange is the New Black took the TV world by storm earlier this year. Seriously, it was all anyone could be talking about and after throwing my back out in March, I decided to see what all the buzz was about.

I found myself taking a while to really get into the show but by the season finale I was totally engrossed. I am currently anticipating the start of season 2 on Netflix. I also find myself more and more inspired by the color orange. It is so much more prevalent in fashion in recent history and really want to be incorporating the color more into my wardrobe and or home. Have you tried adding pops of orange to your life? What do you think?

I also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all you wonderful readers out there today with a little more information about Headbands & Bagels.

Why did I choose Headbands and Bagels as the name of my blog? I am obsessed with everything Classic and Preppy and am constantly inspired by the city I grew up in. I love to shop, play and eat (bagels & pizza are not as good anywhere but NY - It's the water, trust me).

What do you blog about? Anything I am passionate about! I love TV, shopping, cooking and eating out, DIY activities, travel, and surviving in a male dominated Engineering world. I may like science, but I still like to dress up to work everyday (Jeans are a usual outfit staple for 90% of our company).

Quickfire Time!
Guilty Pleasure: TV. My DVR is always full.
Favorite Show: Currently The League on FX
Favorite LA Restaurant: Ortega 120. Try the Tilapia 120!
Best iPhone Cases: Kate Spade hardshell cases (they survive everything).
Always Drinking: Iced Coffee
Go To Heels: Kate Spade Karolina
Favorite Movie: Casablanca. I'm a sucker for B&W
Favorite Snack: Cheese, especially if its French
Can't leave home without: My Kindle
Current Go To Handbag: Kate Spade Cedar Street Small Luciana

Currently... April Edition

Currently... April

Currently... April by preppy-lizzy featuring tall boots

Reading: Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. I know I am behind but I am really enjoying it so far!

Eating: Kale. I know, I know, I sound so California. But I really do love kale. I have been getting it for lunch as a salad with grilled chicken and a lemon vinaigrette about once a week and its awesome. Whole Foods also makes a killer kale, brussel sprout and parmesan salad that is to die for!

Listening: The Midnight in Paris Soundtrack. It is beautiful and is so getting me in the mood for our European family vacation this summer!

Watching: Is this even a question? Game of Thrones of course! This year Dan and I are hosting GOT at our house every Sunday night with all our friends and Dan and I are the only book readers. It is so great getting their reactions to things we've known about for years!

Craving: I'm in love with these shoes. The color amazing, the pattern so cool, the price not so much. A girl can dream at least.

Dreaming: In less than a month I will be kicking my heels together at the Annual Family Square Dance in upstate New York. And the best part? This year I won't be on crutches just days after knee surgery. Time to get the dancing going!

Top 10 Playlist - April Edition

April Top 10 Playlist

I've been on a classical kick lately at work since I listen to my radio almost everyday. I find classical music to be inspirational and soothing at the same time and therefore perfect for work. Also who is going to complain about classical?

Happy Birthday Neeks!

The day my best friend was born. Best present my parents ever gave me.
Today my baby sister turns 25 on the 25th. Not only is this kid my best friend but also just the coolest person I know. If you have a littlee sister, you know how amazing they can be. My sister actually flew out to surprise me for my 28th birthday a few weekends ago. When did she become the coolest adult I know? If you have a little sister you need to read this article, it is all so true!

Stagecoach Wishes

Stagecoach Wishes

It's Stagecoach this weekend in Indio, a massive 3 day country music festival over the weekend. We have attended almost every year since I've lived in California, but this year we are missing it for a friend's wedding in Chicago. I love that you can get dressed up in your best American gear and wear your pride for your country on your clothing. There are plans in the works for one final blowout at Stagecoach next year with our group, I'm hoping this comes to fruition!

Wednesday Wishes: Spring Wishes

Wednesday Wishes

These are my favorite pieces I am coveting this spring. They are a bit all over the map, but all lovely and beautiful! I always can find room for a few more pairs of shoes and I am in love with tops that initial appear casual but then show how elegant they are with beautiful fabrics. These two dresses from Elizabeth McKay are to die for (probably because they are in my favorite colors) and I am wondering how many ways you can style these super laid back metallic shorts from Anthropologie.

Tuesday #Shoesday: The Perfect Festival Shoes

Tuesday #Shoesday

Since last weekend and this coming weekend are continual music festivals out here in California, this week's #Shoesday is all about the perfect shoe for a music festival. I usually like to wear a structured sandal because they keep you cool but are cute as well, but sometimes in the dusty bowl of Indio a great pair of converse sneakers make much more sense. What footwear do you rock for a music festival?

Kate Spade Perfection

What I'm Loving

I am loving Kate Spade New York right now. Both their new arrivals and sale items are all amazing. I am seriously eyeing these new pink flats as well as the striped blazer, which is on sale. It even has a little bow detail on the back which is so great. The tanner dress shown in 1 and 9 is so beautiful, I could see myself dancing the night away at my friends' weddings this summer season. Kate Spade also has amazing wallets. My current wallet is still in good shape, but I have my eye on this polka dot version if it kicks the bucket anytime soon.

Pinterest Hairstyle - Knot Your Average Pony

via Pinterest
I am in love with this double knot for a ponytail. I am currently growing my hair back out so that I can add the second knot but I love who this looks because it can be casual enough for everyday but fancy enough for a wedding or special event. I'm hoping that by September my hair will be long enough so I can rock this to a few weddings we have that month.

Coachella Inspiration for Week 2

Cochella Inspiration

As weekend two of Cochella is upon us, I find myself completely inspired by the laid back chic vibe Coachella goers give off. I am actually more of a stagecoach girl myself but I love the vibe and bright colors that Coachella girls seem to rock. Here is what I'd be rocking this weekend in Indio.

Wednesday Wishes: Nautical Dreams

Wednesday Wishes

Today I am so happy to be guest posting for my amazing friend Kate over at Nautical by Nature. We met through blogging and she is a constant inspiration for my blog everyday! I am constantly dreaming about her amazing nautical finds and wanted to take a crack at it myself today. Today's Wednesday Wishes are all about great Nautical finds, most at amazing price points. The nice thing as well as that more companies are branching out into nautically inspired pieces. While I love Tuckernuck and Sperry for my nautically themed pieces, J.Crew, Forever21 and Old Navy have really stepped up their game as well. What is your favorite Nautically inspired piece in your closet?

Tuesday #Shoesday: Casual Kicks

Tuesday #Shoesday

Today's #Shoesday is all about casual kicks. I love having a pair or two of casual sneakers to kick around in during the summer or when traveling. They are super practical for summer vacation because they look cute with your outfits while still allowing you to be comfortable while exploring new cities. Here are some of my absolute favorites available right now, and a lot of them are at amazing prices!

Blogger Q&A: Meet Flux and Flow

Today I want to introduce you to Jasmine of Flux and Flow. Jasmine is graduating college this June and is off to move back to Hawaii! I'm definitely jealous as I have never been myself! She writes about travels, fashion, and life and has a great perspective that is refreshing and cool. She allows her island girl style to show in her writing and reading her blog is wonderful!

Describe your personal style in three words.
1. Laid-back. (I'm from Hawaii so shorts and rubber slippers are a staple for me!)
2. Black.
3. Comfy. (I'll take yoga pants over jeans any day!)

I can’t leave home without: My cell phone. It sounds obsessive, but everything is on my phone! I have appointments, schedules, all my social media, plus it doubles as a camera and a mighty fine paperweight.

If I were any accessory, I would be: Rings!

What are your three favorite places to shop?
1. American Apparel
2. Forever 21
3. Any online store that has a sale and free shipping!

What is your favorite travel outfit? Since I'm always traveling between Hawaii and someplace cold, I have to wear lots of layers. Usually I'll wear a pair of stretchy jeans or jeggings, a nice cotton top and either a sweatshirt or a cardigan. And of course I'll wear my converse because they're easy to take on and off while going through security.

What outfit to you go do when you want to feel strong and powerful? Black. I'll wear black jeans with a pair of knee-high boots, paired with a white top under a leather jacket. Add NARS Scarlett Empress lipstick and you're good to go!

What is your go-to handbag right now? My Michael Kors royal blue bag is my baby. I got him for Christmas and I haven't changed bags yet!

What are you reading right now? The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult, I can't put it down!

What is a guilty pleasure of yours? House Hunters, I can watch 20 episodes and not get tired of it. (I think I'll blame my mom for this one!)

What company milestone are you most proud of? I'm proud that my blog has been able to reach the amount of people that it has without me having to purchase ads or obsessively self-promote it. I'm also really proud when readers email me and tell me that I've inspired them or changed their lives because of something I wrote. That's the best feeling in the world.
How cute is she!
What blogs have you visited recently? I'm currently loving bleubirdblog.com and profreshstyle.com. These ladies are so inspirational!

Gym Rat Report: Week 6

via Pinterest
Oh my goodness. I am so sorry that earlier this post was just a photo. I lost track of time yesterday and ended up behind. I have been wanting to share some of the awesome circuit training workouts my trainer has developed for me and was planning for this to be the first. I think it is hard to find great workouts at times and I have found myself sweating hard and feeling stronger after each of my workouts on Monday.

Besides working with my trainer on Monday (this week was shoulders), I also had two softball games and worked on my half marathon training. I only made it to one pilates class this week though. And of course had physical therapy on Friday. I think we finally determined this biggest issues with my back and now are on the road to fixing it. I am so relieved.

This shoulder workout is focused on strength and toning. You can reorder as works best for you.
1. Supermans (4 sets, 15 reps/set): Laying flat on your stomach, lift arms and legs into superman position.
2. Up/Down Plank (4 sets, 15 reps/set): Starting in a plank position, drop hands to forearms and back up. One full rotation back to plank on hands is one rep.
3. Power Squat (4 sets, 30 sec/set, 60% body weight on bar): Holding a bar, lean back into a squat and hold for 30 seconds.
4. Dumbbell Truster (4 sets, 15 reps/set, 12 lb dumbbell): Start with dumbbells on shoulders with knees soft. Bend knees and then thrust upward to standing with dumbbells over your head.
5. Kettleball High Pull (4 sets, 15 reps/set, 30 lbs): Start with knees bent and back flat holding the kettleball on the ground. Come to a standing position and pull kettleball up to chin.
6. Power Jump (4 sets, 30 sec): Starting standing with legs together, jump out to a squat position and then back to standing at center.
7. Reverse Crunch (4 sets, 40 reps/set): Laying on a weight bench, hold the bench behind your head and throw your legs down and back up for one rep.
8. Dumbbell Lateral Raise (4 sets, 15 reps/sec, 8 lb dumbbells): Holding your arms in a flexed position at 90 degrees, raise your arms over your head and back to bent position.
9. Kettleball Swings (4 sets, 15 reps/sec, 30 lbs): Swing kettleball to a straight out positions and back through legs. Use momentum.
10. Climbers (4 sets, 60 sec/set): With forearms on weight bench, bend left knee to chest and back and then right knee to chest and back. Repeat.
End with a good full body stretch! Enjoy.

New Obsessesion: LL Bean Signature

Can't Live Without

I got the LL Bean Signature catalog this week and it was making me swoon. I love the classic, preppy lines and am in love with the idea of a seersucker shorts suit. Kinda amazing and oh so feminine menswear. Thoughts? Also my fedora has seen better days and I'm considering this one with a navy ribbon. We shall see. They are offering a great deal of a $10 gift card for future use when you spend at least $50 through April 20th. Check them out at llbeansignature.com. I know I am going to.

April Wildflowers

Falling in Love With Florals

Springtime in LA means the return of wildflowers at most of our national parks and I find myself purchasing more bouquets of flowers for the house. I am totally inspired by all the amazing floral print pieces out on the market right now. I love adding the floral look to some amazing nautical stripes and my ample polka dots. I feel like it was really the print I was missing in my closet. I tried the skirt from Anthropologie and wished it was just a tad longer, but I have my fingers crossed for success with this J.Crew dress!

Currently Craving

Currently Craving

I love this dress. The nautical stripes and bright colors are right up my alley. I also like that it is on the longer side with a full skirt. My Meme sent me a birthday check late last week and since this past weekend was the Kate Spade Spring Friends and Family sale, I used the discount and birthday money for this great dress. I just can't wait for it to arrive! Thanks Meme!

Tuesday #Shoesday

Today is all about the beach and amazing nautically inspired shoes. We celebrated my birthday at the beach this past weekend and I am all about nautically inspired pieces right now. Keds and Sperry always seem to bring the bang and these are no exception.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Celebrating birthdays is always a family affair. With our Meme as kids.
Today is my 28th Birthday! I guess I have to officially say I am in my late 20's now huh? I had the most amazing weekend of celebrations that all started with an epic surprise Friday night. I was attending what I thought was a girl's night out for dancing which turned out to be all a ruse so my amazing baby sister could surprise me!
Me and my amazing baby sister Dominique
I could not have asked for a better birthday present. She flew all the way from NY just to spend some time with me for 36 hours. Thank goodness I get to see her in 2 weeks for Easter but man do I wish she lived out here and was always around to hang out. She is my best friend in the entire world and I owe major props to her, the hubby and one of my amazing besties, Kellie, for pulling off such an epic and shocking surprise. Seriously teared up in the bar. So sorry for the short posts the last few days but this weekend has been an off the charts kick ass whirlwind. I will be better later this week though promise!

Gym Rat Report: Week 5

via Pinterest
Apologies for the short post today but things have been crazy as my birthday is on Monday and my baby sister surprised me last night when we were out on the pier. The girl flew all the way from NY to celebrate with me. So all I want to do is hang with her!

This week was great as I was able to return to my normal fitness routine. With the back up and running again, I was able to do back strengthening on Monday and have a Physical Therapy visit on Wednesday. I have a bunch of new exercises to do and have already seen some improvements in movement. The plan is to continue PT twice a week for now so my therapist can work on getting my back more flexible while I continue my regular fitness routine.

Have you ever tried Physical Therapy? What are your thoughts about it?

Blue Skies Return

What I'm Loving

With spring in full effect, blue cloudless skies have returned. If you look in my closet you will see probably 50% of the entire closet is in shades of blue. It is my favorite color followed closely by pink. Here are some of my favorite options right now! I'm kinda obsessed with the tank for number two, this beautiful pastel coat and this awesome navy and white maxi. What color dominates your closet?

#10ThingsILove in Spring

Loving this new hashtag on Twitter. And as always, I love lists. Therefore without further ado, my current #10ThingsILove for Spring 2014.

10. My Birthday
My birthday is at the start of April and always celebrated with my family over Easter. Last year I celebrated with all my friends with a bowling party followed by a Segway trip the following day with my mom, Dan and our cousins Jimmy and Anna. This year will be a beach day tomorrow!

9. Happy Hour
Happy Hour during the spring time is amazing. Whether its bottomless mimosas for brunch or sitting outside drinking some wine and munching on some apps in the evening, Spring in California is the perfect time to sit outside and have a few cocktails with friends.

via
8. Spring Weddings
There is something so fresh and airy about spring weddings. They are full of color and beautiful. I especially love spring weddings that add in the color of yellow. It just makes me smile and want to dance. Can't wait for some of our spring weddings to attend this year!

via
7. Pilates
While I have started training for my half and spending an evening a week with my trainer, pilates is still one of my favorite activities each week. I try to go 2-3x a week for reformer classes. My body just feels overall better when I am going to pilates. My muscles are relaxed and stretched properly and I love the tone I am starting to see in my muscles.

6. The Beach
The best part of living in southern California is that we can hang at the beach all summer long. Nothing better in my mind then friends, a football, volleyball, my kindle, cold drinks and the ocean.

J.Crew Factory and J.Crew have been having killer sales over the last week. I definitely snagged a few pieces but I have to say I may be most excited about this piece from J.Crew. Both have been offering 25-30% off everything and Factory is having an additional sale on top of that.

4. Jack Rogers Customized Sandals
I love my Jacks. They are beyond comfortable and absolutely look amazing with everything. I have a pair of platinum Navajos that I wore all night at my friends wedding under my bridesmaid dress and I had no problem dancing all night. I just ordered this customized ones and I cannot wait to see them. Jack Rogers customization service is amazing. You can literally get whatever is perfect for you!

3. Pastels
Honestly there is nothing better than adding beautiful pastels to your outfits during spring weather it be with a great handbag, a top or a great pair of shoes like these from J.Crew Factory that I just ordered on sale!

2. Easter Weekend
This is Easter almost 6 years ago, but still one of my favorite pictures of my cousins with Meme. Luckily we will be able to add Dan and Amelia to the photo this year. Easter weekend with my family comes complete with an awesome egg hunt, amazing food and lots of red wine. Oh and maybe  a cutthroat game of Monopoly.

1. Tuckernuck
Tuckernuck is killing it right now. It has become my favorite store for online shopping and I swoon at their new arrivals which seem to happen daily. Right now I am eyeing this adorable nautical rope print top.

So that's my #10ThingsILove List, what would make yours?
