What Does Your Workwear Say About You?

What Does Your Workwear Say About You?

For most of us, we spend Monday through Friday in an office. That means that most of our wardrobes are dedicated to looking our best at our 9 to 5 jobs. But have you ever stopped to think about what your workwear says about you? Are you living up to your company's culture and expectations? Are you dressing for the job you have or the job you want?

I work in a pretty casual environment. As an engineer many of my colleagues wear jeans to work everyday. Compounding an engineering job with the laid back approach of Southern California, very few folks wear more traditional workwear to the office. But there is something that you notice as you advance. The folks that are in meetings with directors, VPs and customers, dress more formally than the folks that spend more time at their desks or with their peers each day.

Honestly it was a hard adjustment for me, going to a more casual environment. Growing up in NYC, my high school had a uniform and dress down days were business casual. My wardrobe was primarily tailored shirts, pencil skirts and black dress pants. The few times I have been pushed into jeans at work, I was thrown for a loop. In fact, working in the desert for six months last year made me crave getting back into more traditional business attire.

I think there is something to be said about dressing for the job you want, not the one you have. It can never hurt you to be overdressed. What if you are called into a meeting last second with your boss's boss? Do you want to be in the underdressed or overdressed category?

While we hope that no one judges based on appearance, you know that is far from the truth. We all do it. It's part of human nature. So put yourself in the position to be best dressed at work. The extra effort could pay off in major dividends.

Style Inspo: Emma Stone

Emma Stone is definitely worth a style inspiration post. While always staying true to being a lady, she pushes the boundaries of fashion and finds ways to make a statement whenever she graces the red carpet. I love her looks and was especially her look at the Golden Globes this year. My best dressed for sure!

What Does Happiness Look Like To You? + A Giveaway

To Be Happy

This post was sponsored by Sourcebooks. Sourcebooks provided a copy of the book for review as well as another copy for a reader. No other compensation was received. All opinions and thoughts are my own. Thank you for supporting the companies that make Headbands & Bagels possible.

If you are a frequent reader of Headbands & Bagels, you know how much I love to read. Reading is one of my huge passions and one that I take very seriously. I read constantly. I actually strive to make sure I read a little every night before bed even.

When Sourcebooks reached out to me to offer me a copy of Dodinsky's In The Garden of Happiness, I was really excited by the opportunity. This is Dodinsky's second book, after In The Garden of Thoughts.

This followup book reads much like a children's book for adults. Full of colorful illustrations and inspirational thoughts about how to find your happiness and rekindle your childlike wonder, Dodinsky's Garden of Happiness is a breath of fresh air. It is also something that you can share with your children or younger family members. There are important messages for those of any age.

My take away message that I took from reading the book was that happiness looks different to everyone. It is truly something that is in the eye of the beholder and should be celebrated by each person. The quote that stuck out most to me was: "Happiness is discovering that the most worthwhile validation is the one you give to yourself." It's a great reminder to take time for yourself and enjoy what gives you happiness, even the littlest things.

Essential Organization Tips to Master by 30

Organization Tips to Master by 30

1. An closet organization system that works for you. By 30 you should no longer be living out of a pile of clothes on the floor. Organize your wardrobe by color, clothing type, pattern, whatever works best for your eye and stick with it. It has taken me a few years to find what works best for me, but know I know that I separate by type and then color, regardless of pattern and I've found getting ready so much easier. All my shoes are in clear boxes so that I have easy visibility to each pair and I can easily step through my wardrobe grabbing each piece.

2. Don't forget about your accessories. If you just focus on the clothes and not your bags, jewelry, makeup, etc., getting ready will still be a chore. Also once things have designated places and you stick to that, the routine will help you stay organized.

3. Learn to make a list and stick to it. I live by my to-do lists. Even if lists aren't your thing, writing things down helps to ensure you don't forget something and get frustrated later.

4. Keep like things together. Find a place to keep all your DVDs, your games, your cooking utensils and stick to it. Don't mix your batteries with your tissues. You'll never find them! Keeping like items together in drawers, etc. will keep you far more organized in the long run.

5. Keep reducing the size of your junk drawer. I'm down to one tiny drawer. I also tackle it every few months to clear it out!

6. Important papers should be in their place, in files in storage bins. Or if you prefer, create a digital filing cabinet. My husband used to just throw all his papers in to a plastic drawer. I finally cleaned it out years later. Amazing the stuff he kept tossed in there and essentially was lost to him.

7. Do a purge at least annually. I try to purge my bookcase, closets, storage bin and kitchen annually. I also go through my linen closet every two years to see if its time to purge any towels or sheets that have seen better days. It's cathartic and reminds you of what you have and what you don't really need anymore.

8. Routine is key. Keeping up with your organization is essential. The more you do it, the more you will always remember where you keep everything.

I am so into sneakers right now. They are the perfect compliment to any look, although a good boat shoe can go a long way as well. Grey I think is perfect for the rest of the winter and transitioning into the spring and could potentially stay cleaner much longer than a white pair. What do you guys think? Sneaker or Boat Shoe?

LA Guide

I really do love LA. A different beast from the City that Never Sleeps, my hometown, NYC, LA is still a great place to live. With the ability to be outside year round and all the activities constantly taking place around the city, there is always something you could do. It is also a great place to live partly because it is so spread out. Yes that can make it a hassle to travel from place to place with traffic, but it also allows you to experience a number of different cultures all over the city.

With this in mind, I wanted to share my list of favorite LA hot spots from all over the city.

Adventure
Trapeze School New York in Santa Monica: My sister in law and brother in law treated the whole family to trapeze lessons a few Christmases ago and it was a huge hit. Dan and I actually signed up for another class and got one free in the process (its called their catch and return program). It is a great way to get your bodies moving and have a different kind of date night. We still have our free class to use (We are planning on using it post baby as a date night!)

Scuba Diving with PCH Scuba: Getting open water certified is a great way to take advantage of all LA has to offer. Over two weekends you can get your certification, which includes your second weekend at Catalina Island diving off Casino Point. I have been sidelined for about 2 years now due to 2 knee surgeries and pregnancy, but I cannot wait to get back in the water. I've worked with PCH as a divemaster in the past and cannot recommend them enough!

Segway Tours: We did this for my birthday when my mom visited us a few years ago and it was a blast. You get a chance to play tourist in a part of your city that you never have had the chance to before and riding a Segway is pretty fun. We took our tour with Another Side of Los Angeles Tours and I cannot recommend them enough!

Jetpack America: A little outside of the LA bubble in Newport Beach, Jetpack America actually gives you the opportunity to fly your own jetpack powered by water. After a short training session you are out in the water and flying high. Depending on how quickly you pick up the controls, your instructor will let you get 20+ feet in the air!

Beaches
Hermosa Beach: Hermosa is my favorite with super wide beaches, tons of volleyball courts, clean public restrooms, a popular walking/bike path, decent surf and a wonderful pier with food and drink options readily available. There is a large mix of young singles and families out here, but the beach can get crowded quickly.

Manhattan Beach: A little quieter with more families and less singles, this is a nice change of pace. The pier is uphill from the beach so it requires a bit more walking but the beach is wide like in Hermosa and has the bike path and public restrooms easily accessible as well as some more volleyball courts.

Redondo Beach: This beach is not as wide as Hermosa but is walking distance. It gets more crowded faster so I typically head here during the week after hours for a sunset or to read my book. It has easy diving off the coast here and the bike path continues to the end of the beach. There is also a pier here with some more quick food options than Hermosa or Redondo's restaurants.

Culture
The Getty Center: Beautiful Architecture, up in the hills of Los Angeles, the Getty has amazing views and an even better garden.

La Brea Tar Pits: Something unique to LA and fun for kids and adults alike. There are also some museums on site in addition to the park. There is a lot to learn and its pretty hands on.

LACMA: This museum has so much to boot and exhibits change pretty frequently. We were members for a year and got all the exhibits free as well as free admission any time. It is a fun place and great for different date nights to get you out of your bubble.

LA Zoo: In Griffith park, the LA Zoo is a really fun afternoon, especially if you have kids to bring along!

Staples Center: Between concerts, Kings games and Clipper Games, there is always something going on.

Dodgers Stadium: Who doesn't love catching a game come Spring and Summer?

KTown: Korea Town is a great place to get some Korean BBQ and/or hit up some karaoke with friends. Most karaoke bars are ones where your group gets their own room and can make a fool of themselves with each other.

Food
Farmer's Market at the Grove: I love the Farmer's Market, especially when I have a group visiting, since everyone can pick their own meal. With tons of options to choose from, everyone will be happy.

Bottega Louie: In downtown LA, Bottega Louie serves up delicious Italian fare and perhaps even more delicious deserts. You can't really go wrong with what you order. Just keep in mind that the place can get pretty loud and busy, especially on weekends.

Ortega 120: My favorite Mexican restaurant in LA, hands down. The food is Mexican with a finer hand but everything, including the drinks are to die for. Go for the Tilapia 120 if you like fish, it's my favorite thing on the menu. Brunch is also a great option here and a really great deal!

In and Out Burger: So good and fresh. Just find one and go.

Diddy Riese: This Brentwood staple is a go to for desert. You get to choose your own ice cream and cookie for a wonderful handmade ice cream cookie. Lines can get long but its worth the wait.

Handel's Ice Cream: Family owned, this South Redondo Beach shop has been around for years and has lines year round. Homemade ice cream flavors make this a great stop. Graham Central Station is my favorite (its a graham cracker ice cream with chocolate pieces). When Girl Scout cookies are out, they also make flavors around the cookies. If you go with a group, get a sampler. It's four scoops for $5.

Outdoors
Malibu: There are tons of great hiking spots in the Malibu canyons. Parking can be challenging on the weekends, but the views of the ocean are worth it.

Hollywood Sign: Almost always hot as most of the trail is in the sun, you still get great views of the city and get get pretty close to the sign. The biggest pain here is parking.

Palos Verdes: PV has some beautiful cliff side trails and some that go down to the ocean. A little quieter than the Malibu trails, PV has some great views of Catalina on clear days.

Griffith Park: LA's version of Central Park, Griffith Park has tons of green space as well as the LA Zoo and Observiatory.

Shopping
The Grove: One of my favorite places to shop, the Grove is an outdoor mall with some of my favorite stores including, J.Crew, Banana Republic and Nordstrom. It can get crowded because its not a huge space. But it is really pretty and the Farmer's Market is next door!

3rd Street Promenade: I think I love coming up to Santa Monica to shop because it reminds me so much of shopping in NY. I love that the promenade is just a few city blocks packed with stores. It feels more like home to me.

Del Amo Fashion Center: Undergoing major renovations, this mall will be beautiful when it is all done. The renovations are going through stages and the new Nordstrom is being built. It's super convient for me travel wise, but it also has a ton of selection.

South Coast Plaza: Not technically in LA, South Coast Plaza has pretty much any store you can think of. It is great for Christmas shopping as even though it gets crowded, there are so many stores, you don't feel like you will never get helped.

Fashion Island: This is also in Orange County but I love that the entire shopping center is outdoors. It also has one of my favorite stores, Vineyard Vines.

Nearby
Las Vegas: About four hours by car or an hour by plane, Las Vegas is a frequent weekend getaway for LA residents.

Temecula Wine Country: Much closer than Napa, Temecula is a great getaway for a day with friends. A lot of vineyards are here, making it a much closer wine tasting trip.

Catalina Island: Just a short ferry ride away, Catalina is like going back in time. Great for a day visit or maybe one night, there is a lot to do in this little island.

Orange County: About an hour from LA, Orange County has some great beach towns, including Laguna Beach.

San Diego: About a 2 hour drive, San Diego has a lot to offer including great diving, fun nightlife and beautiful beaches.

Disneyland: Not too far from the original Happiest Place on Earth.

Big Bear: Skiing is just a few hours drive.

Make Your Eyes Pop

Brining out your natural beauty features is something that every woman strives for. As many women are aware, the color wheel can be a huge help when picking out coordinating colors for your outfit, but it also can provide insight into what colors would compliment your eyes best. To make it easy, I created a handy chart to reference for your eyes. If you are lucky enough to have two different color eyes (welcome to my club), you can pick which color to highlight on a given day!

We all know that you can highlight your eyes by matching your top to your eye color, but using a contrasting color can really make them pop too! Have you ever used clothing to bring out your eye color or skin tone?

Bumpdate: 18 Week Q&A

Bumpdate: Week 18

Baby's Size: A Sweet Potato

Gender: Fingers crossed baby will cooperate at our anatomy ultrasound during week 20!

How I'm Feeling: Overall really good. My belly is growing a bit each day. I finally popped and from the start to the end of each week I have been able to see a growth change. I am feeling good about eating again as well as exercise, so I've been a much more active mama lately.

Showing?: My bump is definitely popping more and more each day. I feel my belly button slowly popping out over time too. Depending on what I am wearing people look at me and then at my bump, even strangers!

Big Developments: Felt the first flutters at the end of week 16and lots of legit movement by the end of week 17. I have one spot that baby likes to push on next to my belly button so that has been getting a lot of love from me and everyone else!

Loving: Anything iced to drink really. Ice Water, Iced Decaf Coffee, Iced Tea. I am always thirsty it seems so I go to bed with tons of ice water and am always sipping on something.

Hating: Still on the fence about Greek yogurt. Was planning on trying again this week. I am hesitant though.

Dreaming Of: I find my best sleep comes in the morning. It may be because I am tossing and turning all night from one side to the other, but I finally seem to settle down into dreams in the early morning. Some days they are intergalactic battles and some days they are me winning a professional championship of some kind (i.e. the Superbowl, World Series, Olympic gold). No flying dreams yet though. Hope they come soon.

Favorite Wardrobe Pieces: My favorite dress from Persifor, the Carter Dress. It is not a maternity dress, but has great stretch. I am loving showing off my little bump now that it looks like a bump instead of chubbiness!

Baby Finds: Nothing in particular. I have been starting to work on my registry and checking out strollers and cribs. My current frontrunners are the Britax Affinity and the Emerson Crib from Pottery Barn Kids. My girlfriend also has the Classic Diaper Bag from Pottery Barn monogrammed and I love it. I'm torn between the grey and the navy!

Winter Wedding: What to Wear

Winter Weddings can be tricky. With temperatures all over the place, it can be hard to find the right balance. Here are four great looks I would be happy to sport depending on the dress code.

Today we celebrate the legacy and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For all the dreams we still have and those Dr. King shared with us, we continue to fight for equality and cooperation amongst the whole of humanity.

Top 10 Playlist

Top 10 Playlist

This month's playlist is all about 90's loves. We were hanging out at a friend's house a few weeks ago when the group decided to do a 90's themed power hour. I played with water :)

These were some of my favorite songs during the 90s and they still translate to today. I found myself rocking out to 90's hits in the car for the last few weeks. Anyone else ever have a decade craving with their music?

Decor on a Budget

Decor on a Budget

I know not everyone is into home décor but its one of those things that can be so fun and such a change of pace. Shopping for home décor is also completely different than clothing. While you are renting you may not want to make big purchases that may not transition well to your next place, or invest too heavily in something that you don't want to live forever with. Also if living with roommates you may not want to invest in furniture pieces like you will when you live on your own or with a spouse or significant other.

Still it is important to make a place your own. If you can paint your rental and see yourself staying longer than a year, go for it. We painted our place and it was worth the effort, even if we have to paint it back when we leave. The colors make it so much more personal and we are more selective about artwork since the color already speaks so much to us.

If painting isn't allowed, or isn't your thing, there are a lot of ways to personalize your space with accent décor. A great basket for blankets, or a floating shelf to show off your collectables, or a great print or cool candle can go a long way in making the space yours. It also means you don't have to spend a ton to make an impact.

Everything shown is $50 or less, and a lot of great finds can be found at stores like HomeGoods or World Market or Target. HomeGoods is a personal favorite of mine. How do you personalize your space?

Pinterest Hairstyle - A Cross Bun + A Giveaway

via
This month's Pinterest hairstyle is a total breeze. Its elegant and can be great for a day at the office or for a formal event like a wedding. Begin by separating your hair into three sections. With the center section, put your hair in a bun or tucked ponytail. I prefer a tucked pony here but you can go with either. Then take one of the side sections and twist around the tucked pony, going over it. Pin down with bobby pins and then repeat with the other section. And voila! You are all set. I do recommend setting with hairspray for an all day hold.

Also today I am joining a great group of fellow bloggers for an Amazon gift card giveaway! Good luck and thanks for supporting Headbands & Bagels.

Signature Scent

Signature Scent

I feel like every woman needs her own signature scent. I finally made it a priority of mine a few years ago to find my scent and since then I have made it my everyday scent. It can take you a bunch of tries to finally find the winner but finding a scent you love is more than just sniffing a bottle. It means trying it on your skin and seeing how it works for you.

I personally fell in love with Chanel's Chance and now many of my friends have said that they associate it with me. But it for sure took me many tries to find what was perfect. I gave myself time to figure it out by spending a few different days sampling different perfumes at my favorite department store or at Sephora. When I felt like I found a winner, I purchased a smaller bottle just to make sure I was positive about it. You can also ask for some samples to take home to try over time if they offer them.

Still I love having a scent that is me and feels like mine. Do you have a signature scent?

Tuesday #Shoesday: Closet Essentials

Tuesday #Shoesday

Salvatore Ferragamo blue flat / Frye vintage shoes / Tory burch shoes / Diane Von Furstenberg leather shoes, $265

There are a few essentials every closet needs. I am a huge fan of shoes so I will admit that I have way more than just these essentials. But these four pairs of shoes can carry you through any outfit.

1. Neutral heels.
They instantly elongate your legs and go with absolutely everything in your closet. Take a page out of the Duchess's playbook and embrace the nude pump.

2. Flats.
Pick a color that goes with everything, like this navy pair. Also invest in comfort here. You will get hundreds of miles more out of your flats if they are super comfortable.

3. Neutral sandals.
Flip flops are great for the beach but other than that, a nice sandal goes a long way. They can be dressed up or down and look more polished than any flop. Go in a neutral tone so you can wear them with lots of different outfits.

4. Riding Boots.
Go for black or brown so they are good for any look. Riding boots are classic and in a flat you can use wear them all day long. I love my pair from Frye that I got a few years ago and they only get better with age.

Color Therapy: Grey

Color Therapy

Grey is really one of my favorite colors or lack of a color. I find it super chic and something that is the perfect neutral. Grey is perfect with any other color in your wardrobe and is something more unexpected than black or white. Grey is great for work or play. How do you style your grey?

Time Management Tips

Time Management Tips

Time Management Tips by preppy-lizzy featuring a battery powered alarm clock

We are all short on time. Our lives are so busy that many days we feel like we cannot get it all done. But there are definitely some tips I have picked up over the years to help with time management and I felt it was worthwhile sharing them with you all.

1. Don't underestimate the all powerful list.
Keeping a running list of my to dos has always helped to remind me of things I don't want to forget. But in general I love a good list. I keep a list on my fridge for groceries so that as I run out of things I can make a note. I also keep a to do list a work everyday of tasks that I need to get accomplished each week. Lists keep me sane and focused without making me feel overwhelmed. I just keep a goal on my mind, that if I can get a task done that day, why not?

2. Knock a few things out every night.
This particularly applies to cleaning, but tiding up each night can help keep you from ever having to spend hours cleaning. Taking a minute or two to clean the vanity counter after brushing your teeth, or putting your clothes away before getting into bed, or wiping down the stove after cooking, can really save you time in the long run. I also love to get a quick vacuum in during commercial breaks. You don't miss anything that way.

3. Multitask while watching TV.
TV is one of those times that you can veg out to the point of being comatose, so instead I try to keep my mind focused by doing another task like knitting or blogging. It keeps me awake and focused. Multitasking can be great but a lot of times it can also work against you. It's really up to you to figure out what tasks you can multitask at and what ones need 100% of your focus.

4. Get a routine.
Routine honestly helps keep you focused better than anything else I have seen. A schedule that you stick to, like hitting the gym or making your lunch nightly, helps to keep you from feeling like you have wasted the day. I find myself wasting time on those days when I feel like I have nothing else to do. On those days I end up putting off my tasks because I feel like I have all the time in the world. But on days where I have my schedule and routine to keep, I am much more productive because I know I only have so much time to get it done.

5. Don't worry about what's left on your list.
You are not superman or superwoman. There will be things left on your list. Just roll them over and deal with them the next day. The world won't end!

What's in my Bag? Gym Edition

What's in my Bag? Gym Edition

One routine I have gotten really good about is packing my gym bag each night when I get home. I unpack my clothes from the day and repack my bag and put it back by the door.

I try to keep the contents light and easily accessible and that all starts with a good bag like this Christopher Kon bag. I use a Lululemon bag that has tons of pockets and zippers to keep myself organized. This way I can keep a bathing suit, goggles, extra hair ties and headbands readily accessible. I also keep a hairbrush and extra socks in case of emergency or if I choose to hit the gym at lunchtime.

My last trick is to always have a granola bar or protein bar stocked in my bag ready at a moment's notice if I am hungry. It definitely helps keep my blood sugar level.

I really love my daily run to the gym, even if it is just for 30 minutes. So making sure I am always ready to go makes it so much easier!

An Announcement

So perhaps many of you saw our big announcement on Instagram on Christmas Day, but it's official, we are planning on welcoming a little monster to our lives in June! We've been calling the little one Embro since we got pregnant but are hoping to find the sex out soon. I promise that while Headbands & Bagels will be adding some content about pregnancy and lifestyle topics around motherhood and babies, H&B will still remain fashion and lifestyle focused. This little one will be traveling just like their mom and dad!

We chose to announce the pregnancy via our Christmas cards this year. Dan liked it for the practicality and efficiency of only having to send one card. Oh boys! Or should I say that's an engineer for you!

I am looking forward to chronicling my status every 2 weeks to month. I hope it's of interest to you all, as I know I love looking back on updates over the years and am looking forward to having this record.

Bumpdate: Week 16

Baby's Size: An Avocado.

Gender: Fingers crossed we will get a tentative answer this week, although we are prepared that nothing will be confirmed until our next ultrasound at week 20.

How I'm Feeling: Finally much better. Week 16 has been a big turn around for me. I was suffering from severe morning sickness up until Monday and eating anything had been a struggle. Luckily it looks like I am finally going to be able to gain some weight, even though I weigh less now than I did before I got pregnant!

Showing?: More every day. I notice it more than a stranger would but its definitely getting there. I first felt like I had a belly at the start of December but its getting more visible even in the looser fitting shirts and button ups. I have been out of my work pants for weeks now, and am slowly having to transition away from my fat pants into maternity clothes. I've definitely gone towards the looser fitting pieces in my wardrobe to help hide it a little longer.

Big Developments: I seem to be past the morning sickness (or all day sickness), knock on wood! Also, the doctor told us that I may be able to start feeling the baby move around. It should feel like butterflies in your stomach. I am hoping it happens soon!

Loving: Water and Iced Tea. I feel constantly dehydrated, even though I'm not. I always seem to have a water bottle on hand these days.

Hating: Greek Yogurt. It started back around week 10 and since then I have not been able to even look at a container of Greek yogurt without having my stomach turn. I'm hoping to try again in the next week or two.

Dreaming Of: Science Fiction. I've been fighting battles to save the universe in a lot of my dreams lately. It may be because I am a nerdy engineer at heart, but I love being a kickass intergalactic hero.

Favorite Wardrobe Pieces: Anything with stretch has really been my friend. Over the Christmas break I practically lived in any of my Lululemon leggings. They have enough stretch for my little belly without the waistband digging in. Waistbands have been my nemesis over the last few weeks.

Baby Finds: My sister and I went shopping when I was home and found super cute finds on sale at Old Navy. I snagged a set of three grey onesies that are perfect and so neutral and Dom bought the baby American Flag slip on sneakers.

#10ThingsILove in Winter

This is the winter edition of #10ThingsILove. Although it is a SoCal Winter Edition. Don't hate!

10. Fall Like Temperatures
It was really cold here over Christmas Break and I missed it all. But to be honest I am not complaining since our houses in LA seem to have zero insulation. When Dan and I walked into our house on Saturday it felt like an ice box. The temperature outside (50s) was drastically warmer than inside the house. It's finally warmed up inside and we are jumping between temps in the 60s and 70s. Personally I prefer the 60s during the winter as it lets me wear my jackets once and a while.

9. Nesting
I love the January and February months at home because it finally feels like we aren't going anywhere after weeks of traveling all over the place. It's nice to unpack, put the decorations away, and get back to a sense of normalcy at home. For us it has been rare to be home 4 weeks straight, so this is a luxury I enjoy beyond measure.

8. Downton Abbey
It's back! It's like the best New Year's gift you can get every year. Downton is finally back and I become a PBS nerd every Sunday for my fix. The first episode already had so much action and scandal (well for the time at least) and I am so excited to see how this season progresses both for those upstairs and downstairs.

7. Aspen
Coming up in February is our annual ski trip with my family. We go someplace out west and this year is Aspen. I have never been and am really excited to shop, explore the town, go snowshoeing and more. Has anyone ever been to Aspen? Any food or activities they can recommend to me??

6. Blogging.
It has seemed so long since I have been siting down everyday to my computer. I know it hasn't really been that long, but I like routine. And working on my blog helps with that routine.

5. Resolutions.
I love a good resolution. This year my goal is to take a photo a day and post it on Instagram. You can follow along with my progress on #photoaday at @preppy_lizzy. I love the idea of having this as a way to look back on your year and to make sure you find something worth sharing from your life everyday.
Back in 2010 my resolution was to put myself out there more in the dating pool and a month later I met Dan and the rest is history. So yes, I believe a good resolution can change your life.

4. Visitors.
February always brings my mom for a week after our ski trip and I cannot wait. I love having her here and taking a few days off to be with her. She is really one of my best friends and the fact that she gets school breaks allows her to come visit for a week at a time throughout the year.

3. Gym.
Routine is something that keeps me focused and I love getting my butt to the gym after work even if it is just for 30 minutes. I try to schedule it into my work calendar so it can never get scheduled over by a meeting. And its inspiring to see everyone at the gym in January, even if a lot of them will fall off throughout the year.

2. Home Cooking.
During the winter months, we get our break from softball. To be honest, its our only months off from our softball leagues and it is a really nice change of pace. I cook most nights at home after I get back from the gym and it is a great way to kickstart better eating in the new year after all the indulgences of the holidays.

1. Being outside.
It is the perfect time to be outside in LA. The temperatures are not super hot and you can easily go hiking or biking or for long walks without feeling overheated. It's also a nice time to eat outside as the sun is shining but you are not baking. And the air seems extra clear in LA during the winter months.
