The Perfect Staycation

The Perfect Staycation

Sometimes the best vacation is one you take right where you live. Dan and I travel a ton for weddings, vacations and family get togethers, so the time we spend at home is precious. And sometimes the best thing you can do is just enjoy your own town.

1. Do something outside your bubble. Go skydiving or go surfing. Check out sites like Groupon to find different things to do in your area. Take paddleboarding lessons, or learn to make pizza, or go geocaching. Dan and I are going skydiving this weekend for our 2nd Wedding Anniversary.

2. Try new restaurants. We all have that list of places that we want to try but never seem to because we fall back on our old favorites. Break out of that rut on your staycation and try someplace new.

3. Turn your cell phones to airplane mode and just unwind. Give yourself a technology break and spend time just with a good gal pal or your guy. Just a day off technology will give you a refreshed spirit.

4. Take your camera. Go crazy. Take lots of pictures and enjoy the sights. When you go on vacation you snap photos like mad. Find the beauty in your own town. Play paparazzi.

5. Do one very touristy thing. Go hit the Hollywood Walk of Fame in LA, or Times Square in NY, or the Bean in Chicago, or take a duck tour in Boston. Be a tourist in your own city and learn something new. Take a bus tour and just explore. Visit a new museum or take in a local concert.

6. Lose yourself in a good book. Grab a good read and just relax. Find a comfy spot and lose yourself for a few hours in a good story. Check out my book reviews each month if you are looking for a good choice. You can find them all easily here.

7. Forget the schedule. Keep your plans flexible and go with the flow. And remember you are on vacation, so just enjoy!
