Day to Night Series: The Plaid Button Down

Today I am pairing up with Laura from Walking in Memphis in High Heels on her Day to Night Series. This installment is for the plaid shirt. Laura and I both have a love of plaid and we love how easily it can transition from day to night. I styled the evening look while Laura went with a more daytime inspired look.

On Me: Shirt: Banana Republic (similar), Skirt: Boden USA (similar), Shoes: Anthropologie (similar), Watch: Fossil (similar), Necklace: Kate Spade (similar), Earrings: Baublebar (similar), Bracelets: Etsy and Fitbit Flex

Guest Post: Walking in High Heels

Today I am so excited for my blog role model to be guest posting on my blog. Laura of Walking in Memphis in High Heels is one of the coolest girls I know and I am so glad I get to call her a friend. I was lucky enough to get to know Laura when I featured her in a blog Q&A and found her to be one of  the most gracious and kind people I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I am so excited to introduce her to anyone who may not already know about her. I look forward to working with her on our blogs for years to come! Take it away Laura!

Hi, I'm Laura, and I blog over at Walking in Memphis in High Heels.  I am so excited to be guest posting for Elisabeth while she is in Europe (and maybe a little jealous!)  ; )

My main focus on my blog is fashion...hence the
walking in high heels, but I also occasionally post about my day to day life including my husband, 2 yorkies and fitness.  After many years of hoping and praying, my husband and I are now happy to announce that we have a little girl named Leighton on the way in about 3 more months!  So...you will also start seeing some baby posts and some more home décor posts (as I grow out of my clothing and get too lazy to take outfit pictures.)  ; )  I just graduated with my MBA a couple months ago, so now I get to just focus on working full time as a credit manager, blogging and soon being a mommy too!

I started my blog for mainly two reasons – to share good fashion deals and to push my boundaries and take more risks when it comes to fashion.  I tend to mainly be drawn to girly pieces that are colorful but have a modern feel to them.  I am also very budget conscious so I rewear my pieces a lot, and one of my favorite ways to change things up is by mixing prints.  Below are a few of my favorite print mixing looks that I have worn over the last year and a half of blogging.  Mixing prints is such a fun way to take a risk without having to try anything too drastic.  It also makes most any look feel modern and current.  My favorite two prints to mix is stripes and florals.  If you’re worried about looking like you don’t match at all, try just a couple different subtle pieces paired with other solids, or you can start with polka dots and stripes in the same color scheme.  Mix a floral blouse with a striped blazer over it and a solid pair of skinnies or a skirt.  Just start small and remember that sometimes less actually is more.  = )  You can also view more of my outfits
on Instagram. Thanks for stopping by and reading today, and I would love it if you would stop by my blog and say hello if you get the chance. = ) Which one of these looks is your favorite? Do you like print mixing?

Meet Walking in Memphis in High Heels - Blogger Q&A

Laura is the founder of one of my favorite style blogs, Walking in Memphis in High Heels. She mixes pieces at all different price ranges without flaw and somehow balances it all between working, graduate school and blogger extraordinaire. This girl is a serious force to be reckoned with.

Describe your personal style in three words.
1. Girly
2. Classic
3. Trendy
A little of all three, and I like to mix it up.  = )

I can’t leave home without:
My YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick.

If I were any accessory, I would be:
If I were any accessory, I would be a long, bold colorful statement necklace.

Where are your three favorite places to shop?
1. Ann Taylor
2. J.Crew
3. Nordstrom

What is your favorite travel outfit?
My favorite travel outfit is definitely my J.Crew pixie pants, a button down blouse and some flats.  No belt, no jewelry and easy to slip off shoes.  It's all about comfort and speed in the airport.  = )

What outfit to you go do when you want to feel strong and powerful?
I would probably put on a pencil skirt, a bright colored blouse, some statement jewelry and my tallest pair of eye catching heels.

What is your go-to handbag right now?
Right now I have been carrying my GiGi New York black barrel bag like crazy.  I thought it would annoy me carrying it in my hand instead of on my shoulder, but it hasn't.  It is my new favorite.

What are you reading right now?
Haha, Management Science & Quantitative Tools.  I'm taking my final exams this week for grad school.  = )  No fun reading until I graduate in 5 months!

What is a guilty pleasure of yours?
Chocolate covered strawberries.  Once I start making them, I can eat the entire batch and then feel the need to make them every night that week.  So good though!  At least I use dark chocolate, right?  = )

What career milestone are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my two career milestones this year.  I was just promoted to Assistant Credit Manager a couple months ago, and I also earned my highest certification in my field, Certified Credit Executive.

What blogs have you visited recently?
Gal Meets Glam, Pink Avenue and Cara Loren.  I am looking forward to the next month off from school because it has put a big damper on my blog reading.  I've got a lot of catching up to do over the holidays!
