Holiday Parties seem to be every week now, so if you are thinking of hosting your own, now is the time to get it on the calendar. The most fun holiday shindigs are those that come complete with theme. This may be due to my being a sorority girl who can never say no to a theme party, but theme parties just seem more fun to me, hands down. Some options for a kick ass holiday theme party are:
The Ugly Sweater Party - require all guests to done their most trashy or kitschy holiday sweater. Give out awards for best sweater, most offensive sweater and best use of technology. Have egg nog, Christmas cookies and other festive treats on hand to keep your guests happy.
The White Elephant Gift Exchange - Set a limit and ask each guest to bring a gift that is around your limit. Make sure each gift is wrapped. Have each guest draw a number out of a hat and let the backstabbing begin. Number 1 can select any gift to unwrap. Number 2 can then choose a different unwrapped gift or steal the gift Number 1 selected. When a steal occurs, the guest who lost their gift may unwrap a new gift. Any gift can only be stolen up to three times, so be careful! Gag gifts and booze are always big hits in this game.
The Stock the Bar Party - This type of party also works as a housewarming. But for a stock the bar party, ask guests to bring their favorite booze of choice to stock your bar. As host you have wine, beer, snacks and mixers readily available. At the end of the night you'll have a variety of booze (probably partially drunk) to stock your bar!
The Santa Pub Crawl - A lot of cities host their own Santa themed pub crawl that you can partake in (SantaCon in NY, or the Santa Monica Pub Crawl in LA) but you can very easily create your own Santa themed soiree. Encourage guests to come in their Santa or Elf finest and set a course to your favorite bars in town. Talk to the bars in advance to see if they can do specials or any holiday themed drinks.
