I'll Always Love You Liz Lemon

Thursday night one of my most favorite shows came to an end. 30 Rock had a full one hour season finale to say goodbye to The Girlie Show, Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, Tracy Jordan, Jenna Maroney and the rest of the cast and crew. This is the show that gave us some great in terms in our daily lexicon like "blerg," "nerds," and "ham napkin." I will also miss the facial expressions of Liz, especially in her dealings with Tracy and Jenna.

While it wasn't my favorite 30 Rock episode ever, I did appreciate all the the references to old episodes, especially the Rural Juror storyline and Liz and Tracy ending up in a strip club. I also appreciated that to it's end 30 Rock continued to make fun of the crap on TV, even advertising for it during their own show, "MILF Island" is still my favorite although the fact that "Homonym" broke into the Middle East market was a nice reference this season.

I also found the Lutz-Blimpie storyline great this episode. Only Tina Fey and team can make something so benign as lunch so richly hilarious. Changing his name to Aardvark may have been his most brilliant move, although imagining Lutz in the air duct shaft was impressive nonetheless.

It was a heartfelt goodbye to our friends as Jack finally told Liz how important she was to him, and both seemed excited about their next steps in life. I appreciated the flash forward one year for only a second or two to catch a glimpse of everyone's life, but could have passed on the final snow globe scene.

SPOILER: Did anyone else think it was unnecessary to have Liz's granddaughter pitching the show concept to Kenneth year's later? Like she was writing Liz's life into a show for her? It seemed unnecessary.

Still, I felt overall pretty happy with this finale. It had some great guest stars return that had been recurring characters of the show, as well as heart and humor. Could you expect any less from the great Tina Fey? (Also you have to know you did pretty well when the show gets its own ice cream flavor from Ben & Jerry's right? - it's Ben & Jerry's Greek Yogurt - Liz Lemon)
